Self- regulation and well being
Self- regulation and well being This lesson will go through the elements of supporting development within the frame of self-regulation and well being. Discussion post #1: Connection is the key: Please read Dr. Jean Clinton’s article” The Power of Positive Adult Child Relationships: Connection Is the Key”. In this article, Clinton discusses the importance of establishing strong relationships and creating secure attachments (or "connections") with young children. – Briefly explain Clinton’s thesis (what is her key message?) in this article (please remember to cite your sources) and then explain in your own words what you think Clinton means by "Connection is the key". -Now, using the article to support you thinking, consider your own relationships and respond to the following questions: • According to Clinton, what does it mean to have a connection with another person? • Have you ever had a strong connection with another person? • What was it that made you feel connected to that person? • Have you ever felt a strong connection with a teacher? • What was it that made you feel connected to them? • Have you ever felt a strong connection with a child you have had in placement or in your working life? • What was it that made you feel connected to that child? Think about your answers. Were there any common themes? What do you think this can teach you about your own ability to form connections with other people? How will you use this knowledge to support your practice?
